Is he right handed? Yeah you betchya alrighty

My apologies if you were looking for some daily update for this morning. The up side is that yesterday we got nearly all of our patients up on their prosthesis for the 1st time. Many tears of joy for many people. Additionally after 6pm we were able to provide follow-up care for several patients.... I think it was 10. 6 of the patients were measure for new sockets.
Rosa, one of our longstanding patients along with several other patients brought in some wonderful beef, choclo and ceviche. Muy deliciosos
By the end of the night my head was nodding and around 2am I was sleeping on my keyboard.

Today was a great dddddddddddddsddddddddsssddsdddddddddsssssddddddddddddddd

Our goal is to make today as excellent as yesterday.

si no hay subidas y bajadas en vida entonces estas muerto..... As one of our newest patients Adolfo says "if there are no ups and downs in life, then you are dead."

Sorry so short tonight. Much more work ahead tomorrow.

Is this a prosthesis?
Long day today. A lot of work done.... Much more to do

So focused. Let's mold.

Are these DPT students or MSPO? Hard to tell, but easy to convert.

Uno

Well.... I don't know how the rest of the week is going to go, but if today was any indication, it is going to be a most excellent week.

If you haven't checked out the blog before, please go back and assure that you haven't missed something.  During the day I post various pictures if the moment seems right.  They all show up as separate posts.

For me, the best part of the day; apart from the boxes arriving, was the opportunity to work with Fernando.

1st..any of you that know me....the ABBA song as well as excerpts from SNLs "Fernando's Hideaway" kept creeping into my mind....and then out my mouth.....cause "You look Marvelous!"

Look it up....yeah you.

Fernando has to be one of the many unsung heroes of the Dreaming and Working mission.  He has been a part of every trip and yet only now do we get to meet him.  Not only do we get to meet him but he his clearly wanting to be there and involved in what we are doing.

Fernando speaks no English.  I speak extremely little Spanish.  But we speak a common language of prosthetics.  I think....no...I know, that he....like me....wants to help people.  He sat, helped and assisted with all of the patients that Missy and I evaluated today.  We rejoiced and fist bumped or high five'd every time measurements we were taking were matching his from 5 mos. ago.

As I understand things, Dr. Mary, the Peruvian Physiatrist that brings us here, is the reason that Fernando is here with us this week.  She is now the director of rehabilitation here and thus has been able to grant permission for Fernando to be a part.

To make for a trifecta...remember our friend Jonathan?  (see blog 2013 & 2014) the amputee that went to Physiotherapy School.  Well, he now works in Fernando's clinic in Lima.  I think this is considered potential realized.

I think that's enough great news for today.  Otherwise, I might pop.

How about a taping lesson from the Guru of Garooos, Juan Paholski

Legs R Us

How about a little range of motion Alexis

AFO anyone.

Little pillow talk with his favorite speech therapist

The boxes have arrived. Al is about to hurt is back. What happens next..... Al says " gonna be pretty interesting"

Did I tell you that the boxes have arrived? WaaaaaHooooooooo!! All patients have gone through some evaluation and preliminary fitting. Now it is time for silicone class with Esteban y Gabby.

For many years Dr. Mary has partnered with a local prosthetist. They would send us measurements and pictures so that we could begin our work. This is the 1st year we meet him. This is Fernando. He is going to be with us for the week. This is an awesome opportunity for everyone. Very excited.

Bienvenidos

Well, after a very long travel day we finally arrived in Peru very early this AM.  I think that one of the best things I have noticed so far......there's no snow here.  There is nothing really great to report so far. We made a much needed stop at the local hardware store to be sure we are well equipped for tomorrow.

Bright and sunny day on the west coast of Peru.  Picked up a few souvenirs and a short lounge at the beach.  I think tomorrow we'll be ready for work tomorrow.

In general, the conditions of Peru seem much improved from previous years.  New buildings and businesses and cleaner streets certainly make it seem like things are improving in Peru.

For those of you just tuning in, we are here in Lima Peru.  Our mission is to help the underserved of this region.  Our vehicle for this help is our longstanding relationship with Daniel Carrion Hospital in the Callao region of Lima, Peru.   We are here for 1 week. Through our relationship with Dr. Mary, we will plan to fit nearly 50 patients with their first prostheses.

As with every year, our trepidation lies in the hopes that our boxes of supplies will be released from customs.  Without these boxes, there is almost nothing we can do.

I hope to provide daily posts to this blog as well as pictures that seem fitting during the course of the days.

Till Manana

Buenos noches

Pablo
